You want to make a …
You want to make a thick, flat mold for fondant. That way, when you press the fondant into the mold the mold does not change its shape. For pearls you can use a one part, or two part mold. First make a one part mold, it you find mold making is easy you can try a two part mold later. Make many pearl-shapes spaces in one mold, that are separated. Press the fondant into the pearl mold, and scrape or cut away the top layer, leaving each of your pearls single and perfect in the mold.

It’s not cheap …
It’s not cheap until you try buying a silicone candy mold in an uncommon shape. If you go to the sugarcraft website, #A277, the alligator is $40.00 FOR ONE MOLD, and that doesn’t include shipping. Or how about the tiny “life-sized rasberry” mold, #NM-168, for $9.00 per mold! For $30 of supplies you could make 20 raspberry molds and not have to wait for your hard candy to cool between castings. For a crafty artist paying out the butt for for mass-produced boring molds is nuts.

Where can one find Amazing Mold Putty. Michaels no longers carries this at the stores or online in Massachusetts can someone tell me where else I can find this? What is the name of the company that makes this> Is this a Sculpey product or a Fimo product or some other company?

Since I last visited the Alumilite website posted more information, they state:
Amazing Mold Putty is food grade compliant up to 395 degrees F. This enables you to either bake food, polymer clay, or any other type of material in the mold without harming it.
If you plan to use the mold for food, do not use it with any other material before putting your food product into the mold to eliminate any possibility of contamination.

A more realistic …
A more realistic tack than avoiding all plastic products is to choose what has the biggest impact. For example, avoiding many many meters of PVC pipes in building a new home means no PVC waste–copper pipes can be recycled (and copper is cheap right now too, due to recession wordwide.) Avoiding super soft plastic toys that are likely to go in the mouth will guard a child from plastic softeners better than banning polymer clay which only contacts the skin and offers a creative outlet.
